Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a hands-on health care profession that focuses on restoring

the position and function of the joints, both spinal and peripheral. It is a

recognized Health Profession and recognized by statute in all Canadian

Provinces and American States.

In Canada, the approach includes patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

There are many reasons why people seek Chiropractic care. Those

suffering with symptoms such as: Back pain, Neck pain, Headache, Dizziness,

joint stiffness and limited motion of the back, neck, shoulders, knees, wrists

and/or ankles will attend a Chiropractor. As well, those dealing with acute and

chronic conditions such as: Strains/Sprains resulting from sport and work-related

injuries, Arthritis, Scoliosis, and Fibromyalgia will visit a Chiropractor. Some

choose Chiropractic for prevention, general health and well-being. Treatment

is non-invasive and without drugs. Management plans can be simple or

comprehensive including therapies such as adjustment/manipulation, soft tissue

mobilization, rehabilitative exercise, low level laser therapy, lifestyle and general

nutritional counseling.

What is an adjustment?

An adjustment, also known as manipulation or spinal manipulative therapy

(SMT), is the hallmark of Chiropractic treatment. It is a manual technique

that uses highly refined skills developed over years of intensive Chiropractic

education and experience. The adjustment requires a carefully controlled, high

velocity, low amplitude (HVLA) force delivered by the doctor to the patient’s dysfunctional spinal

or extremity joints. The primary goal is to gap the joint and activate the nerve

system. This has a rebalancing effect on the Central Nervous System which

results in better nerve communication, improved function and decreased pain.

How does LASER work?

Low level light (cold) therapy speeds up the healing process. Laser light

can heal wounds, sprains/strains, tears and fractures, decrease inflammation,

and reduce pain. Focused beams of light applied to the skin penetrate deep

into the tissue structure and stimulate chemical and cellular reactions. There

are many clinical presentations that respond well to cold laser therapy. These

include: back, neck, shoulder and knee pain, wounds and scars, sinusitis,

arthritis, tendinitis/tendinosis, sprains/strains, fractures, carpal tunnel syndrome,

and heel spurs.

What type of Techniques does Dr. Michele use?

Diversified Adjustment, which is a direct contact, manual procedure.

Activator Adjustment, which is an instrument-assisted, very gentle, reflex

technique.

Drop Technique, which employs the force of the table drop piece.

Trigger Point, Reflex Point, Traction, Cranial Release, and Raindrop

Therapy are all manual, low-force techniques directed to the soft tissues

supporting the joints.
